FOX5 Vegas – KVVU

Salvation Army worked with the new Las Vegas nonprofit organization, There Is No Hero In Heroin, to raise money and awareness to help recovering heroin addicts. Organizers of the event educated their audience about how heroin is a community problem, and not just an individual or family problem. They also unveiled a memorial wall that recognizes those who have overcome heroin addiction, those who are still struggling with one, and those who have lost their lives from it.

Family Services Manager for Las Vegas Recovery Center (LVRC), Hortensia DeJesus, attended the event, stating, “I never felt more proud to be a Las Vegan than I did last night! The message was so poignant:

  • Heroin addiction is killing our youth and incarcerating our loved ones at staggering rates. The data presented by the Deputy Sheriff, Judge Bell, Dr. Pohl, and Dr. Gloria, shook everyone up.
  • We must not stand by and DO nothing. How dare we allow this to continue!
  • Not a dry eye in the crowd, exhilarating energy of pride could be felt at the end of the event.
  • Joe is a local hero, a regular guy, and a revolutionary”
