In 2010, there were 3,983 emergency room visits in Nevada for overdoses of prescription medications. 80% of emergency room visits for prescription drug overdoses are due to abuse of analgesics (pain relievers) or psychotropics (anti-depressants). Seventy-one percent of those admitted to emergency rooms for prescription drug overdose involved people diagnosed with drug dependence.
