Pain and Addiction Specialist Mel Pohl M.D. FASAM

Mel Pohl, MD FASAM - Medical Director

Mel Pohl, MD, FASAM is a Board Certified Family Practitioner. He is Vice President of Medical Affairs and the Medical Director of Las Vegas Recovery Center (LVRC). Dr. Pohl was a major force in developing LVRC's Chronic Pain Recovery Program. He is certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM), and a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). He is the former chairman of ASAM's AIDS Committee, a member of ASAM's Symposium Planning Committee, a member of the planning committee for ASAM's Annual "Common Threads, Pain and Addiction" Course and co-chair of ASAM's Pain and Addiction Workgroup. Dr. Pohl is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He was elected by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America from 2009 to 2014. He is a nationally known public speaker and co-author of Pain Recovery: How to Find Balance and Reduce Suffering from Chronic Pain (Central Recovery Press, 2009); Pain Recovery for Families: How to Find Balance When Someone Else's Chronic Pain Becomes Your Problem Too (Central Recovery Press, 2010); The Caregiver’s Journey: When You Love Someone with AIDS (Hazelden, 1990); Staying Sane: When You Care for Someone with Chronic Illness (Health Communications, 1992). Dr. Pohl is the author of A Day without Pain (Central Recovery Press, 2008), which won a silver medal from Independent Publisher Book Award in May 2009. He has recently written a revised version of A Day without Pain (Central Recovery Press, 2011).

Paul Kapsar, RN MSN APN - Nursing Director

Paul Kapsar RN MSN APN has had a 40+ year healthcare career. His introduction was as a hospital orderly, moving on to his RN in 1977 from Saint Vincent Health Center School of Nursing in Erie Pennsylvania, Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania [yes, it is a real university www.sru.edu] and a Masters In Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1999 from the combined Clarion/Slippery Rock Family Nurse Practitioner program. His career included staff nurse, nurse manager, emergency preparedness and management, reserve military officer, hospital information systems manager, university nursing instructor, author, web designer, jail health administration, full time Family Practice Nurse Practitioner, and entrepreneur. Paul regularly acts as a preceptor to students from various Nurse Practitioner programs and recently students from University of Nevada, Reno, School of Medicine department of Psychiatry. Paul has publications covering disaster preparation, Bioterrorism, Effects of a death in the family, Clinical computer uses, and unusual presentations of patients in the emergency department. Paul brings a breadth and depth of experience to the Las Vegas Recovery Center.

Connie Ellis, Licensed Practical Nurse

Connie Ellis is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the Company since June 2005. Ms. Ellis provides nursing care to clients to include assisting with client exams, communicating client needs with medical staff, administering medications and providing client education.
